I like scanning as a way of making a digital collage. Sometimes I scan old pictures, other times other's pictures or even objects. I can take control of them digitally and blend them together and adjust color and transparency. I feel scanning can allow you to add a more organic element by bringing old film pictures into a new realm and giving them a new life. Also I think it's important to scan actual objects as opposed to merely taking their picture. You get more texture and reality that way.
